Properties We Preserve
In 1916, nine villagers created the Bedford Historical Society and purchased the old Methodist Church to save it from development. Now known as Historical Hall, this building stands at the base of Bates Hill which was the location of the original meeting house on the edge of the Village Green. Through foresight and determination over the years, the Bedford Historical Society has acquired, preserved and protected seven buildings around the Village Green. In addition, the society maintains the 1787 Court House, the Bedford Oak and the Sutton Clock Tower for the benefit of the town. Each of these properties has its own history and helps to tell the story of Bedford from its early days as a colonial settlement.
