Education Tours & Programs

The Bedford Historical Society offers various educational programs which can be tailored to the needs, abilities and desires of our visitors. 

Among the programs we offer:

School Days

A visit to our 1829 one-room school house which includes a lesson in 19th century education and compares the school room to the classrooms of students today. This can be adapted for grades 1 through 5. 

2nd Saturdays - Guided Walking Tour of Historic Bedford Village

A walking tour of this original New England Village and Green, examining the architecture of the buildings, a visit to the School House, Court House and Old Burying Ground. Watch our home page for tour dates.

1787 Bedford Court House & Museum

A guided tour of the Court House, museum of local history and a visit to the original jail cell.

Games from the Past

Exploration of early games – jacks, marbles, rolling hoop, tops, leapfrog and other traditional games.

Footsteps in the Past – Walking the Trail of History in Bedford

Focusing on colonial life, this tour augments the NYS fourth grade social studies curriculum.  The program includes a visit to the Village Green, Court House, School House & Bedford General Store. Click here for full description or watch the video.
