The Bedford Historical Society is a non-profit organization funded by its membership. The Society's mission is to preserve the historic buildings and landmarks in Bedford and promote the history of Bedford through educational programs and events.

Since 1916, the Society’s purpose has been to actively practice preservation through the acquisition of properties and artifacts; and to encourage an appreciation of Bedford’s history through educational programs and exhibits of the Society’s collections and archives.

In addition to owning and maintaining eight historic properties, the Society maintains the Sutton Clock & Tower and the 1787 Bedford Court House for the benefit of the Town.  It operates a museum of local history at the Court House and a one-room School House museum at the 1829 “Stone Jug.”

The Society sponsors events and lectures of interest to its membership and the community, educational tours and programs, special exhibits of its collections, as well as fund-raising events to support its mission.
