In 1916, nine villagers purchased the old Methodist Church to save it from development and founded the Bedford Historical Society. The Historical Society has acquired, preserved and protected seven buildings around the Village Green. In addition, the Society maintains the 1787 Court House, two acres protecting the Bedford Oak and the Sutton Clock & Tower for the benefit of the Town. Each of these properties has its own history and helps to tell the story of Bedford from its early days as a colonial settlement.
